Vision Statement for Religious Education
At Orton CE school, Religious Education is both a core academic subject on our curriculum and a subject that allows children to be inspired, to reflect and ask questions that are complex, exciting and enable them to deepen their understanding of the wider world around them. Just as in the Parable of The Sower, we provide the children with the best environment to thrive and flourish through the development of skills, knowledge and understanding in Religious Education. This is done by following a curriculum based on asking questions and, investigating and exploring, so that children are enriched with a deep understanding of spiritual faith. Religious Education throughout the school allows all children to develop and demonstrate respect for others, of all religions and none and in all walks of life; to give them the confidence to ask the big and difficult questions and to provide them with the opportunity to reflect on their own spirituality, as they prepare to go out into the world. Through Religious Education at our school, children grow strong with deep roots embedded in the values of love, forgiveness and hope.
We teach RE through the Blackburn Diocese curriculum. Although we are a Church of England school we welcome everyone no matter what their back ground or beliefs. We teach the main world religions and compare and contrast them against each other. Our vision is to prepare our children well to be respectful and caring citizens when they go out into the World.
