Spring Term 2024

Our Christian Value for this half term
is

Compassion

Summer Term 2023

Our Christian Value for this half term is

Koinonia

This word Koinonia has a rich variety of meanings:
fellowship; community; union; partnership.
It is the same word as is used for animals which are yoked together
and thus work together as a pair, sharing the burden equally.
In Christian teaching “koinonia” describes how Christians come together as a family,
with believers being regarded as “children of God” and brothers and sisters in Christ
(see John chapter 17). Corinthians chapter 12  verses 12-31 gives us the picture of the Church as being like a body—in a body different parts have different functions, but each part is an important part of the whole.
If something were missing, the body would be incomplete and not able to function so well.
As we all know, if one part of the body is in pain, the whole part is affected.
In the same way, the members of a family are interdependent: all are needed and valued and each person is important to the whole—
this is the message for the Church… and for our school.

Our Christian Value this half term is

Reverence.

Reverence is profound respect and love. When you have a reverent attitude toward God, you honour Him, express your gratitude to Him, and obey His commandments.

Spring Term 2023

Our Christian Value this half term is

Service.

Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Genesis 1:1-2:3

  • Day 1 – God created light and separated the light from the darkness, calling light “day” and darkness “night.”
  • Day 2 – God created an expanse to separate the waters and called it “sky.”
  • Day 3 – God created the dry ground and gathered the waters, calling the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters “seas.” On day three, God also created plants and trees.
  • Day 4 – God created the sun, moon, and the stars to give light to the earth and to govern and separate the day and the night. These would also serve as signs to mark seasons, days, and years.
  • Day 5 – God created every living creature of the seas and every winged bird, blessing them to multiply and fill the waters and the sky with life.
  • Day 6 – God created the animals. And finally, God created man and woman in his own image. He blessed them and gave them every creature and the whole earth to rule over, care for, and cultivate.
  • Day 7 – God had finished his work of creation and so he rested on the seventh day, blessing it and making it holy.

Our Christian Value this half term is
Wisdom.
Wisdom is different to just being clever.
Often wise people have lots of experience and can give good advice to help us make difficult decisions.
Some people pray because they believe God can help them to live their lives wisely.

Autumn Term 2022

Our Christian Value for the second half of the Autumn term is

Endurance

Endurance is recognition that life is sometimes difficult and painful and that it is important not to give up in the face of adversity. Endurance and perseverance are only possible where there is hope and that hope is based on the enduring nature of God’s love and faithfulness.
In our school this means that we don't give up as soon as things go wrong.  We know that we can learn from mistakes and keep improving.  Even when we are faced with challenges we remember that we are not alone.

Our Christian Value for the first half of the Autumn term is

Trust

Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God.
John 14:1

Trust is essential in human life and it is at the heart of our relationships
with one another
and
with God.
We are able to live in harmony when we know that we can trust those around us.

Family Service

Summer Term 2022

Our Christian value for the second half of the Summer term is Friendship .

Christians believe they can call God their friend because of the relationship made possible through Jesus. Jesus was criticised for being the 'friend of sinners' and eating with those whom society rejected. Sharing a meal with someone is an explicit sign of friendship and the word 'companion' literally means 'one with whom you share bread'.

Our Christian value for the first half of the Summer term is Thankfulness.

Christians believe that God loves and cares for them in many different ways in all aspects of their life.
They know their response to this provision should be one of thankfulness and praise.

Spring Term 2022

Our Christian Value for the second half of the Spring term is Hope

The beginning of John’s Gospel says ‘The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.’ Throughout his life Jesus gave hope to others and the resurrection of Jesus shows us that evil can never ultimately triumph over love.

Hope is a core value for our church school because we share in the joy that comes from the belief that there is always hope and all is never lost.

Hope is an attitude of mind that we develop through faith in God and each other
In our school this helps us to keep going even when things get hard and when we face new challenges. Together we can turn hope into reality.

Our Christian Value for the first half of the Spring term is Forgiveness

FORGIVENESS is the means by which damaged relationships are restored.
It is an act of the will, motivated by love.
For Christians, Jesus’ death on the cross is the ultimate revelation of God’s forgiving love,
and his sacrifice stands as a source of inspiration to forgive others, no matter what the cost. Forgiveness is fundamental to the character of God.
Throughout the Bible, God is described as slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin. (Number 14:18)
Jesus told his followers that they must forgive and keep on forgiving without limit.

Families Together

Dear God,
We thank you that you are a loving heavenly father,
who, when we have done or said wrong things,
are always ready to forgive us when we ask you
and we are ready to put things right.
We ask you to help us as well to forgive others
when they do wrong to us.
Amen

Autumn Term 2021

Our Christian Value for the 2nd  half of the Autumn Term is

Peace

Bible Verses from the Book of Psalms  remind us that if we look to God in times of trial and sorrow, we will always find peace.

Families Together quiz night

Child Led Worship

This week the children told the bible story of Daniel in the Lion's Den.
It was very exciting as the children acted out the story using a variety of props.
We sang 'Be Bold, Be Strong', ending with a prayer which reminded us that the story of Daniel tells us "don't let people shout you down if you know you are right".

Reverend Sandra,

helped by some of the children told the story The Judgement of Solomon.
This was another example to help us understand this term's Christian Value...Justice.

From the first book of Kings, Chapter 3, this Bible story exemplifies the wisdom of King Solomon.  Two mothers living in the same house, each the mother of an infant son, came to Solomon. One of the babies had died, and each claimed the remaining boy as her own. Calling for a sword, Solomon declared his judgment: the baby would be cut in two, each woman to receive half. One mother did not contest the ruling, declaring that if she could not have the baby then neither of them could, but the other begged Solomon, "Give the baby to her, just don't kill him!"
The king declared the second woman the true mother, as a mother would even give up her baby if that was necessary to save its life.  "All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king because they perceived the wisdom of God was in him to do justice." (1 Kings 3:28)

Harvest Festival

It was with great joy that we walked up to church to celebrate the Harvest.  It was the first time in over 18 months that we have been able to worship in Church.  The Harvest celebration service was made even more special as we were able to invite Parents, Carers and Grandparents.  Each class took part reading poems, prayers and sharing some wonderful art work all prepared by the children themselves.  A gift of food contributed by each child/ family was blessed by Reverend Sandra and will be distributed amongst the local community via the Eden Food Bank.

Welcome back Reverend Fran

It was lovely to be able to welcome Reverend Fran into school today, it is so long since we have seen her 'in  person'.

Reverend Fran led us in a  collective worship with a Harvest theme. Reminding us about looking after others who have less than we have.   We played a quiz that resulted in us all learning that the word HARVEST can also spell other words that are particularly meaningful in our harvest celebration.... these included ...

  • earth.
  • have
  • hearts
  • starve
  • share

Charlie's Church

Class 1 walked up to church this week to see Charlie...for some of the children it was their first meeting with Charlie.

Mary read us a bible story: Noah’s Ark
We all helped Charlie look for the  animals then helped them get into the Ark.
Charlie told us how he used to be frightened of playing with water but said a prayer to God. Charlie then showed us how he is now not so frightened of water!

We are so excited to be able to welcome people back into school to lead our worship.
We were able to welcome Ruth and Fajita who together led a worship about our Christian Value this half term, Justice.
This involved members of staff and bars of chocolate!

We have also welcomed the Open The Book ‘team’ in to school who performed the story Jesus calms the storm.  This included the wonderful props and scenery that the team bring with them which really helps bring these  bible  stories to life.

We are looking forward seeing our other worship guests, including Reverends Fran, Stephen and Andrew

Our Christian Value for the 1st half of the Autumn Term is

Justice

Justice could mean giving wrong doers the punishment they deserve ie. the punishment fitting the crime- just desserts, an eye for an eye etc.
However, it could also mean giving all people- particularly the poor and oppressed - what is right and fair for them to have ie. life, health, freedom, and dignity- this is social justice.

We will use many different bible stories to emphasize this, our main one being Jonah and the Whale which you can read below with your children in our take home sheets or watch the Youtube video.

Our Christian Value for the 2nd half of the Summer Term is

Compassion

Compassion means we care about others, treat them with kindness, and feel a strong desire to help people in need. Compassion is empathy in action.

For a child, compassion might look like giving a hug, making a card, or saying something kind to help a friend or family member who is feeling sad or upset.

Class 3 RE

They listened to the story about The Good Samaritan

Humility

Humility is the quality of being humble and means putting the needs of another person before your own, and thinking of others before yourself. It also means not drawing attention to yourself, and it can mean acknowledging that you are not always right.

Koinonia comes from the Greek word meaning community or fellowship. This shows the special relationship we have with each other where as a community we look after each other, where we are welcomed and accepted, no matter who we are.

Resurrection Gardens

Class 4 took advantage of the lovely sunshine and spent their RE lesson outdoors making Resurrection Gardens to celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead.

Pastoral Letter.

‘I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned and heard my cry; He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand’   (Psalm 40v1-2)

It is now twelve weeks since we were able to meet together in church for worship. We miss our fellowship, but the Church is alive and God is still at work. This week’s service is entitled ‘God’s Care’ with a reflection by Douglas Birkbeck, encouraging us to ‘Trust and do not be afraid’; and something new – a picture for you to reflect on! The service also includes a reading from The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6 v 25-34), where Jesus tells us, ‘Don’t worry … your Father knows what you need … but first seek His Kingdom’.  In Psalm 40 (above), the psalmist first ‘waits patiently’ for the Lord before he is lifted on to the rock.

Our house is named ‘Men-a-vaur’ – Cornish for ‘great rock’. It is the name of an island in the Isles of Scilly – a massive chunk of granite standing on the outer edge of the islands and taking the full force of the weather rolling in from the Atlantic, yet offers care and security to hundreds (if not thousands) of sea birds. This massive rock is split into three, with narrow passages between the three sections – reminding us the Trinity and also of the brokenness at the cross – Jesus separated yet still part of the whole – a real symbol of God’s solid love for us!
Jesus talks about building our house on the rock, the sure foundation. In these times of change, God asks us to ‘wait patiently’ and to ‘be still’. As we do, the Church becomes a symbol of God’s presence, His love and security in this turbulent world – like Men-a-vaur, standing firm against the storm.
The hymn says: ‘Fastened to the rock, which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love’ (MP 770).

The journal, ‘A Story to Tell’ (if you didn’t receive one last week, more are on order!) is a chance to reflect on your journey with Jesus, perhaps especially through recent days – listening and reflecting on God’s work in us and His words to us – and then sharing our stories with each other.

We do not yet know when we will be able to gather together again – there is a possibility it may be next month, but for some fellowships it may be longer. For now,  we are God’s church, scattered in our communities as witnesses to His love and grace.

Please pray for your church fellowships, remembering those who are on their own, ill or in hospital, bereaved or lonely; and give thanks for answered prayers.
‘Praise God, from whom all blessings flow!’

The peace of the Lord be with you always

26 April 2020

We're absolutely thrilled that Kristy Pattimore has started making a weekly collective worship video for everyone to enjoy. Here's the second week - thanks Kristy!

Open The Book ~ The Story of Thomas.

26.04.20

Jesus had some special friends too – we call them his Disciples.  After Jesus was killed on the cross he rose again and met with some of his friends who were so happy to see him. One of his friends, called Thomas, was not there when the others met with Jesus, and Thomas said that he did not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead and that unless he could put his own fingers in the hole in Jesus’ hands he would not accept that it was true. The next time they were all together to talk and pray Jesus joined them and spoke to Thomas and showed him the holes on his hands where he had been nailed to the cross. As soon as Thomas saw Jesus he fell on his knees and said that Jesus was his Master. Jesus told him that he believed because he had seen Jesus but blessed were people who had not seen Jesus but believed in Him anyway.
So just because we cannot see Jesus we know he will always be our friend, just like those friends that we cannot play with, or go to tea with right now  - remember Jesus always loves us and wants us to love him too.
Thank God for your friends!

You can find this story in your Bible  -
New Testament – John chapter 20. Verse 24-30.

News from Charlie's Church.
